| | | Re: Blueing Bolete? I think Chris is the best person to answer this one, but I believe this is the job of the Taxonomists, usually based in Europe.
One imagines there is a committee made up from people from several countries who spend their whole life reading previous works of long dead mycologists to see if a given species has previously been given another name which must take precedence (no matter how inappropriate ?)
If I found a new species, there is nothing stopping me from naming it myself, but then the experts would get to work to see if it is genuinely new to science, or if the name I have chosen has been used elsewhere and so many other things as well.
Come on Chris, help me out here.
Neil.

| | | Re: Blueing Bolete? It's defently a must to use the latin name for the fungi as it plays an important role in identification. Im new to the fungi world and don't know many latin names at all to be honest, i think newcommers of this subject use the english names as it is easier to remember but will lead to miss identification.
I struggle to remember the latin names as i can't pronounce them, i think if you can say them out loud you will remember them better. For me it's just getting to that point :P |

| | | Re: Blueing Bolete? What will it be like in say, 100 years when China overtakes the US as the No 1 superpower ?
Even without a war, trade with China will be so important, more and more people will have to learn Mandarin Chinese.
Will we ever reach a stage where Mandarin (complete with the wiggly characters) replaces 'Latin' as the scientific name ?
