This decision/suggeston from Andy has left me with raised eyebrows or rather in shock, as I immediately thought a Stereum species which was in desperate need of a scratch test and an identification of the tree it was growing upon. 
What is it you see Andy which separates this from a Stereum sp. ?

Neil. | Even though commonly called curtain crust the appearance of Hymenochaete fruitbodies can appear as above. I agree that Stereum is obviously similar but nothing comes to mind within that genus that fits the pics supplied.
Highlighting once again that the identification of fungi without microscopic examination can be very difficult.
Do either of you Neil & Ken have any suggestions?????
