Ganoderma sp. - almost certainly G. applanatum; a look at the spores would settle it . . . .

PS could the tree have been a beech? looks rather more like one

Millions of brown spores everywhere, so almost certainly a Ganoderma sp. but which one though ?
I think the tree is beech, not oak, and because of the thinness, rather than the thickness of the fungus, I'm tempted to opt for Ganoderma applanatum, but this is no way a certainity.

Yes, beech is likely, the wood is mainly oak and beech.

Got a new laptop with a resizing programme now so I will be posting more pix for ID in the future!
