| | | Coprinus.....? I found this yesterday growing on a waterlogged woodland path. That's something I haven't been able to say for quite some time! Yes, the rain has come to Kent, finally, and yesterday I went out and was rewarded with quite a few finds.
This had sprung up through the mud and seemed quite happy growing in a dirty puddle. There were several growing nearby and I picked one to have a look at the underside. It was very hard, considering how much water was present. The cap was completely closed against the stem so the gills weren't visible.
I'm guessing it's some kind of Coprinus? Yet again, I need your eyes and knowledge to properly identify this one.
Many thanks

Unfortunately there's not enough information in your image to identify the fungus with any degree of accuracy. The more details you provide, both in image and habit / host the better chance of ID.
Take a look at: Help us to help you identify fungi
I'd also suggest not using a watermark as it does absolutely nothing to enhance the subject and only creates a distraction!

Stewart | and you are probably dead right Stewart
If Coprinopsis atramentaria I would expect more in the immediate area
I think Wayne took this image for its aesthetics, it's a lovely image!

| | | Re: Coprinus.....? Maybe it would have helped if I had posted this picture too. These were growing on the same path, possibly more mature specimens of the same species? I hope this helps.
John, the watermark isn't meant to add to or enhance the picture. I have plans to use these pictures at a later date, hence the need for a watermark. I try to place them in a way that will not affect the possible identification of the specimen photographed. If someone requested a copy of the picture without the watermark, I would happily oblige.
Many thanks for all you help guys, it is much appreciated.

May I add that it would have helped if you'd had shown this photo in the first place, instead of the tricky one.

Wayne | I'm not convinced that this isn't Coprinopsis acuminata - a look at the spores would of course settle it but . . . .
