| | | Unidentified Fungi Not sure what this is, it doesn't appear to be similar to any I can find in my books, especially this time of year.
This is growing in a pot of mint in my garden, there has been mint in this pot for a few years now but this just appeared this year for the first time, would appreciate your help.

| | | Re: Unidentified Fungi Hi Stewart,
The (several) fungi in your photo are only just emerging, and consequently aren't showing sufficent characteristics (for me at least) to suggest an ID.
Very pronounced bulbous base of stipe though!
If you don't get any definitive ID on what we have here, perhaps you could re-post with more photos when they mature.
Including a gill shot at that time would also be helpful.
Regards,
Mike. |

| | | Re: Unidentified Fungi Thanks Mike, Was in a bit of a hurry so apologies for lack of good information....
Below are 2 more pictures, with a pound coin to show some scale, the cap doesn't seem to be opening up to show gills so it is hard to say at this stage, I was thinking this could be a late Flammulina velutipes, but the base looks to stubby, also in the now more clear younger specimens.....
Thanks Stewart |

Thanks Stewart | Hi Stewart
Possibly young basidomes of Agrocybe .... praecox (A very variable fungus!)
A few more days should clinch it!

Nope, I can't help you out either, but we all want to see some fresh photos in no more than a few days time, especially an 'underneath' shot of the one with the biggest cap.
If necessary, place a mirror on the ground under the fungus, this should add more light and enable us hopefully to see if gills or tubes are present and what colour they are.
But don't pull any up yet, let the biggest reach maturity.
Neil.
PS. Just realised, it will be a struggle to get a mirror underneath, you may have to cut the mint back really hard or even remove a smaller adjacent fungus, alternatively we will just have to be patient. |

| | | Re: Unidentified Fungi The splitting shouldn't make too much difference to the overall appearance, but do make sure you keep the pot well watered.
Nifty bit of camera work there with the Zippo ! - at least we now know it's gilled and they are brownish.

| | | Re: Unidentified Fungi Here are today's shots......
The bright sunshine through the leaves has given them a distinctly yellow/green tinge, which may be misleading.....
Watering several times a day Neil......
Thanks Stewart |

| | | Re: Unidentified Fungi Oi reckon they be Aliens.
I still haven't a clue what they are going to turn out to be - exciting ain't it !
Probably everybody at Kew are now tuned in to this forum by now just waiting for the right moment to pounce.
Where's William Hill ? Are they taking bet's on who is going to be first with a correct ID ?
