| | greenhouse cortinarius? This was spotted in my greenhouse yesterday, hidden under a stone , near an old ants nest - I do grow things like tomatoes in there too................
Its quite dry now, and its got me stumped, so any help appreciated.
Cortina ring quite clear to see, fibrils on a thickish stem, darker towards base, slightly bulbous towards base too, veil remnants on edge of cap which is flattened with age I think, but maybe with a slight umbo.
Stem is stuffed, not hollow.
Not done a spore print yet (if there are any!). Gills adnateish.
looks similar to C. laniger, but I doubt that.
Thanks a lot
Ken

not a lot of time at the moment, but this is no Cortinarius; that genus is mycorrizal and has a cobwebby veil a "cortina" not a membranous one like this; I'd be thinking Strophariaceae - possibly small Stropharia rugosoannulata - those wrinkled gills may be down to desiccation rather than a good character

Reason: Chris Yeates made the same point about the ring.

| | | Re: greenhouse cortinarius? Brilliant, thanks a lot both of you, good steers/suggestions, food for thought for me there.
Your Stropharia Chris seems to have quite a slim stem............
Agrocybe may well fit better, seems closer in all respects but still cant be sure, so leave as a maybe? - that greenhouse keeps throwing up interesting stuff, must keep it warm and wet..........
Cheers
Ken
PS Wentworth very dry Chris, unlike here - water butts full and ready.............
edit - on macro features, A. erebia does look good to me! Chris, I know you're busy - it was in yorkshire, do you want it? Just say no.............

Chris may become hooked on macro fungi and abandon his micro's and we can't have that.
