Just a heads up for two useful books for anyone interested in Boletes.

I’ve just received my copy of this book and can’t add anything to that review – the book is quite simply excellent.

Also, one that’s been available for some time: -

Availability – Printed copies now only available from Summerfield Books. (but there is an online version downloadable from the “Keys” section of the BMS website”. (Note that Pendleside Books referred to on BMS website in connection with obtaining printed copies has now ceased trading).

Described by Archie as a “booklet”, this is “A guide for beginners who take seriously their desire to know how to identify agarics and boleti to genus. After the keys there is an updated summary of the Agarics and Boleti section of Guide to the Literature for the Identification of British Basidiomycetes by Brand, Henrici and Leonard intended for beginners, but useful to all. Then an Index of Genera in 10 publications, including the booklet itself and including the recent Funga Nordica. Additional to the main key to genera, Archie includes a key to Galerina which updates the problem key in British Fungus Flora Volume 7. Also Derek Schafer's Simplified Key to Coprinus s.l. is here and a comprehensive glossary of terms used in the booklet”.

The book is very well thought out, the keys are easy to follow, and it is small enough to slip into a pocket for use in the field.

Obviously, Melanie has much more experience than myself, so it is good to have such input.

Archie McAdam is a very approachable chap, (I got my copy directly from him). He has stated that he is very happy to receive comment on his book - particularly from anyone who might spot any errors.

The printed version of the book was last revised in October 2010

I will make a comment on Melanie's post to see if she can elaborate, and then I can forward the details of the problem to Archie.
