| | | Too Hot ! Hi all,
I am down in the south and it seems to hot for the buggers to pop up their heads
Is it just me looking in the wrong places ? Is everyone else having the same luck here on the south coast ?
Regards, nobby.

| | | Re: Too Hot ! There will be stuff out there if you know where to look but the situation is similar in East Yorkshire, its a mycological desert at the moment, apart from a fine example of Polyporus squamosus on a big stump that has kept me entertained for weeks!

| | | Re: Too Hot ! Pete,
We found quite a lot of P.squamosus today at Anston Stones Reserve in South Yorks whilst on the BMS Spring Foray.
This is quite some distance from base camp at Wentworth Castle, but was chosen at the last minute by the organisers in desperation to find a damp habitat in which to foray - even so, the local mycologists say even this site is very dry.
But fingers crossed, we are due for some rain tonight.

| | | Re: Too Hot ! Things are popping up here in North Yorkshire though the rain has only really amounted to anything today. It has drizzled a few times over the last week, but until today not really wettened the soil. I've had 2 species in the last few days in my garden - nothing exciting, (but still exciting to find as it is so dry and because it is my garden ) - Bolbitius titubans and Agrocybe pediades. Also Parasola leiocephala and Pluteus cervinus nearby. In Northumberland last week I found a Psathyrella which I'm still scratching my head over, Agrocybe paludosa and a Scutellinia probably S umborum. Also today a smut on Winter Aconite, and a rust on Sweet Violet. I was looking at those plants as I wanted to harvest some seeds ... no seeds but fungi instead, so I didn't go away empty handed.
Hopefully Hatfield Moors will have had a good dousing of rain for the BMS foray tomorrow.
Melanie

| | | Re: Too Hot ! It does seem to have been far too hot and dry. Here in Bingley I have been going out after a day of pretty heavy rain and the ground is still dry so far all I have found is some Ink Caps, deer fawn/shield, a couple of larch boletes and some ear fungus. These were all in the woods, the fields are still bare. I am going to go out today to have another search as the ground looks damp today. |

| | | Re: Too Hot ! The ground is extremley dry around my area, i found some ash and elm trees at the weekend and was looking for a good couple of hours with no luck. I did find a huge fungi growing off a fallen tree. I will put a topic of i.d later tonight.
