I have been pondering (  ) the idea that ponds might have many as yet unidentified spp. for some time now. How many of these small isolated water bodies are out there? How many chances to hide something small and interesting? Especially if it can encyst or does not rely on water for all of its life cycle.

This isn't just a new spp. It has to be a new phylum, sub-phylum at least. Like, WOW!!!
Your point is good tho Deb. E.O.Wilson, the greatest entomologist ever and one of the 20thC's greatest ecologists, claimed that every rainforest tree has at least one spp of insect unique to that tree. Every beefburger costs the world a creature that is unique. MacGenocide.
