Help with fungi identication please

Could someone please put a name to this fungi or lichen or what ever family
it belongs to,i would be very grateful,i don't know the name of the tree it is growing on as its in a mixed forest,the photo was taken in may.

Hi Alan,

It looks like a nice example of the slime mould Lycogala.

Lycogala epidendrum would be the most likely I think, but it could possibly be Lycogala terrestre. Colour changes to the internal spore mass & microscopy is the only way to be absolutely certain.

Hi Alan

It's a slime mould - Lycogala epidendrum Or Lycogala terrestre

Thanks Mike & John for your ID you have been
very helpful.i would never have been able to ID it as a slime mould.
it was such a bright orange growing against the browns and greens.
