| | | Ganoderma Is this a Ganoderma resinaceum? There are no pores but it has the slightly "crusty" feel of the only one I have seen before but it is quite a bright yellow which my previous find was not.
Thanks for the thoughts

| | | Re: Ganoderma Well, it's getting towards that time of year, you have a nice mature Oak there, the specimen has a waxy look to it - so I reckon you're gonna be right Mal.
Neil.
PS. There is no truth in the rumour the next new fungus found will be named after William or Kate (boring, boring, boring........)

| | | Re: Ganoderma Hmm... , not much feedback to Mal's post, surely there must be quite a few Wabbers who are familiar with emerging G.resinaceum ?
Failing that, I'm surprised no one has put forward the suggestion of a very early Oak Polypore which I have seen very similar to this when first emerging, but the fact this is growing on attached bark quickly rules this out.
Neil.
PS. If you can Mal, try to take a shot every week to show how it gradually forms a bracket shape. Then post the lot in one go. |

| | | Re: Ganoderma It looks a bit G.pfiefferi, but on oak is most likely resinaceum , no redish tones that I would expect to see, but often look like bread rolls at first and then a red/maroon base develops. If targets are within range of the tree I would have it evaluated, resinaceum is quiet an aggressive root parasite
