| | | Pin Mould I photographed this Pin Mould (I assume it is a Mucor species), growing on son old Raspberries. Can anyone offer a species name? The sporangia were up to 0.5mm diameter and the spores were hyaline, sub-globose to globose
5 - 8.7 microns diameter.

| | | Re: Pin Mould hi Peter
a guy called Kedney did some research on Mucor years ago (as indeed have hundreds of others!)
he came up with three on Rubus idaeus: Mucor hiemalis f. hiemalis Mucor piriformis Mucor racemosus f. racemosus hiemalis, I'm pretty sure has ellipsoid spores; piriformis was described originally on rotten apples, so . . . . .
but I'm sure you'll appreciate doing them from a photograph is well nigh impossible . . . after all, they all look pretty similar/and also paradoxically can be variable, at the macroscopic level; the experts would whip them into culture so you have a level playing field, not influenced by the various external factors experienced in nature

| | | Re: Pin Mould Thanks Chris, I was being optimistically hopeful that there may have been only one on Raspberries, or only one with subglobose to globose spores, never mind I will call it Mucor sp.
I collected a few asco's today will post some photo's to the Gallery if and when identified, I even found some larger fungi: Morchella esculenta, Lots of Calocybe gambosa, and a nice fresh specimen of Lycoperdon utriforme (all left in situ after being photographed) Not to bad for saying it has been so dry and I when out to do wild flower photography,
Peter
