| | | Bolton Abbey Bracket fungi Could anyone help me in IDing these bracket Fungi taken at Bolton Abbey May 2006. I thought perhaps Trametes gibbosa but then saw a photo of the rare Trametes Suaveolens in Michael Jordan's fungi encyclopedia that looked very similar. They seemed to have a thinner edge than Lumpy bracket
Thanks

| | | Re: Bolton Abbey Bracket fungi Definitely (Pseudo)trametes gibbosa. I've been mulling over this for ages and opted for Trametes suaveolens. Unconvinced I had a word with Micheal Jordan and sent him an example. It came back as P. gibbosa. which was a surprise. The green alga on the lumpy surface is distinctive and the thinner edge is a late stage and the picture in the book is a new specimen. It really threw me and just goes to show that pictures are sometimes misleading. In fact no picture in a book convinces me of the ID. Another pointer was the fact that an old specimen I had dried out was turned into a pile of granular powder by beetle larvae - another ID feature.
Hope this helps clear things up. |
