I initially thought it might be Bisporella pallescens but presumably not with those spiky edges? |

those spiky edges are the 'hairs' we talk about, and are key to working towards an ID - this couldn't possibly a Bisporella for example on that basis (as you correctly surmise); John is probably correct in his identification - I always plod through the microscopy with these fellows, Andreas ('Mollisia') is a wealth of short cuts, though he knows this group exceedingly well; however I suspect even he will on many occasions probably need to go through the microscopy

I know next to nothing about fungus so once again Wild about Britain or should I say all you good people are hopefully going to increase my knowledge base considerably.
