| | | First posting - help needed to identify fungus Hi folks,
Would appreciate help in identifying the following fungus. Its approximately 180mm top to bottom and is growing on shady NE side of hornbeam felled in 2005.
Thanks,
Bruce |

| | | Re: First posting - help needed to identify fungus Thanks for the helpful pointer Solus. With your info to go on I've checked out a number of Phlebia species on the net.
P. livida or P. radiata are favourites at the moment.

Although I can see why (from its general shape) some of you think it might be a lichen, from researching the net I am fairly confident that it is a Phlebia sp. of fungus. Its size and age may also be factor pointing more to a fungus than a lichen. It is no more than 18 months old and is approx 18 cm top to bottom.
Here is a more close up photo (taken 24/1/07) of another body further along the trunk of the same felled hornbeam. |

Bruce | Yes, naturally one Phlebia sp.
And why not P. radiata = P. merismoides ? : here here and there |

| | | Re: First posting - help needed to identify fungus Thanks for posting the links ecmyco. The third photo (..and there) is particular convincing for P. radiata (P. merismoides).
