Taken 02/04/11 Cotswold Water Park tree not identified but not in leaf, woodland and probably ash. I am just a beginner with a small identification book that hardly ever gives me a name

looks like a young Dryad's Saddle (Polyporus squamosus).

Your fungus is a young specimen of Polyporus squamosus, Dryads Saddle. If you keep your eyes on it over the next few days, it will expand and get considerably larger.
