| | | Some fungi for ID please I've various un-identified fungi photos lurking in the innards of my computer so I thought it might be time to post some of them for identification!
Q1. Exidia sp. On Oak. March.
Q2. Exidia sp. Also on Oak, wasn't sure whether its the same species as Q1
Q3. At base of rotten stump in Oak, Birch, Hazel woodland. March.
Q4. Mollisia cinerea, Common Grey Disco? On rotten spade handle, March
Q5. On rotten log, October
Q6. Chaetosphaerella phaeostroma? On rotten log, October
Thanks in advance,

OK
first two I would suggest E. glandulosa with a fair degree of confidence - it doesn't look like E. plana, which rarely occurs on oak in any case
Q3 is in the Sclerotinia 'sensu lato' area - you need to know exactly what it was growing out of and then do often need to do the microscopy - there isn't wood anemone in this area by any chance?
Q4 could well be Mollisia cinerea, but this is a tricky genus at the best of times - you have to look at details of spores and paraphyses etc to get to species level
Q5 I don't think that's an ascomycete; I think it's one of the fungi which are actually agarics though very un-toadstool-like! Merismodes and similar genera
Q6 very probably C. phaeostroma . . . . one look at the spores would confirm it - see: more black balls
best wishes
Chris

I think Q5 is Henningsomyces candidus. Very often confused as an ascomycete.
A closer inspection of the very distinctive 'tube' structure would confirm, with no need for microscopy!

| | | Re: Some fungi for ID please Thanks Chris, John and Mal for the identifications - I'll see if I can locate the Mollisia and Chaetosphaerella to check under the microscope.
Is Henningsomyces candidus seasonal - I checked the wood pile and couldn't find it again, though the log it was on could have gone by now .....
