The habitat and time of year (not that you would go on that!) just didn't seem right either!
John | I agree it's a superficial resemblance but still interesting . . . . nice to see both Brian and Alick stumped
" M. cf. melaleuca, or M. melaleuca ss. lato" can be translated as "stumped"
LOL
Chris
it's quite possibly undescribed - Melanoleuca leachii mayhap?

| | | Re: Melanoleuca from Lound It does bring about the question on how we photograph and rely on images etc
Here's an image Les took using Flash
Whilst I'm using flash for some images I still tend to use the 'natural' light image for 'reference' shots. The difference can be quite subtle or quite striking depending on the species!
Here's my image of the same fbs without flash
You can clearly see how difficult it can be taking photographs of fungi ... hence why you should never rely on a photograph ... ever!

John | of course if we were sensible (look at me - correct use of the subjunctive at this hour!), we'd take two shots and include a piece of white paper in one of them - lots of software (even good old free Picasa) could then be brought into play
I find it much harder when taking shots down the microscope - I suspect when the subject is hyaline (colourless) I should resort to monochrome for better results

Chris | Yes, maybe we should all go back to monochrome and magnesium flash bulbs
The trouble is, I remember those days well
