| | Interesting fungal foray questions! Hi everyone,
a few interesting things froma brief trip into a wood today:
Small stagshorn usually dries dark orange, but this was different, sort of shiny/glittery/reflective too:
Then this seems to be a green mould on old candlesnuff - any other ideas? Or what the mould may be? looks like penicillin!
And on turning over a log, these were underneath, does a basal disc mean they are Mycena stylobates? Or are there others at this time of year? Sorry about the poor pic.
And whilst pondering the candlesnuff, this fell on my head from the Horse Chestnut way above, fortunately only a bit of bark!
Is it a not fully developed, dry, toothed crust, Basidioradula radula? Any other thoughts please?
Thanks a lot
Ken

| | | Re: Interesting fungal foray questions! Have you purposely disregarded Mycena adscendens - (Frosty Bonnet) for No.3 Ken? M.adscendens can be found at this time of year, although not as often as in autumn.
Can't see whether the cap had the typical "sugary" granules, but it does look to have the typically lustrous / sparsely hairy stipe.
Do you recall what the gills were like? If I recall correctly, M.adscendens has fewer wider spaced gills, whereas M.stilobates has more gills, and more narrowly spaced.
Regards,
Mike. |

| | | Re: Interesting fungal foray questions! I would agree with Mike on No3 and I have spent quite a time on something that looks very much like No1 and it turned out to be resin If you collected some and it goes hard that might be the "id"

| | | Re: Interesting fungal foray questions! M. Adscendens, of course, thanks Mike, Mal and Melanie, it slipped my mind.
Mal, this is small stagshorn that persists and is quite normal when wet, just this one has such a peculiar dry appearance - its not resin, but I can see why it might look it - a bit like amber.
Thanks everyone, that leaves two to go - no help with the green mouldy stuff or crust?
Cheers
Ken
