| | black mines! Hi ,
grateful for help with these too from todays wanderings before it got too wet..............
On rotten deciduous log, in profusion, I've seen this before, commonly I think, but only now taken a piece for closeup shot, its very tiny, much less than a pinhead - it looks like black anchored harbour mines you see in films, with lots of antennae, but none blew up when I handled it!
Cheers
Ken

Regards,
Mike. | sadly that's not British . . . . there are 11 species of Chaetosphaeria that are though . . . . . if it did have projections then Lasiosphaeria is a possibility
in my experience Melanomma pulvis-pyrius is the commonest of these small gregarious pyreno's on decorticated wood
I suspect that I know the answer to this - did you collect any? Without a microscope you can't hope to get anywhere with these fellows I'm afraid . . . . Quote:

Neil. | powdery mildews are strictly parasitic - they don't occur on dead wood
cheers
Chris

Chris I do have it - and I have a microscope now, but need to get used to it - my last attempts at microscopy were in 6th form biology, some time ago - however, if you can let me know what I'm looking for, I'll give it a whirl.
Dont expect pics though, ha ha.
Cheers
Ken

Oops, I should have known that (and the 'antennae' are totally different as well)
