Found yesterday, growing on rotten fallen Fagus.
Dense "mat" (overall size approximately 75mm), of tiny spherical fruitbodies. individual "spheres" each no more than 1mm in diameter.
Have been unable to find anything identical in either my books or online.
However, I am fairly sure I have seen photographs of this on WAB - but have been unable to locate them.   
Any suggestions for ID much appreciated.

Try Rosellinia, although there are 21 species listed in the BMS database!

Hi Peter,
I had considered Rosellinia, but the ones I've seen photos of all seem to have a slight "nipple" projecting from the upper surface of the spheres.
However, I have now found the one I was thinking of, which was Lasiosphaeria spermoides.
EDIT - I understand that the name is now Ruzenia spermoides.
This seems to be identical (as far as I can get on the basis of macro characteristics).
