Hi oldclapper, and welcome to WAB.
Your fungus is possibly the distinctly inedible!! Cellar Cup - Peziza cerea.
NB: WAB operates a policy of non-discussion regarding the edibility or otherwise of fungi.
You will probably get away with it this time, this being your first post on WAB, but you should really read the "sticky" threads at the top of the fungi forum page, before considering any further posts.

thirded . . . seen it on quite a few occasions in places where I or friends lived, usually on plasterwork - though one friend even had it growing on an old rug in the boot of her car - made mapping it interesting
