Hi all, was walking through the woods the other day when came across these lovely specimen attached to a piece of dead wood. Have not been identifying fungi long so help would be greatly appriciated, here are my observations that should hopefully aid identification!
I believe they are growing on a piece of dead scyamore tree, I took a photo of the trees growing nearby, the same as what the fungi were grown on.
Other trees growing nearby include holly and oak
another fungus growing on the same branch can be seen here
As for the fungus itself, the largest specimen was 10cm across, the top part was velvety to the touch, and rubbery, almost jelly like to the touch,no strong smell, had similar coloured pores to the flesh on the underside.
Having consulted a few mushroom identification books, personally i think it's Auricularia auricula-judane AKA the Jelly Ear, looks an easily recognisable one, but I would like a second opinion! Thanks for reading, Drypulse
