| | | sand dunes fungi IDs 1) Hello,
these fungi grew on (rabbit infested) sand dunes near Gwithian, Cornwall last summer/autumn. Can anybody help to identify them, please?

3)

Unfortunately I haven't got any additional information about nor pictures of them. |

| | | Re: sand dunes fungi IDs 1) Number 3 looks like Hygrocybe conica
Number 4 is a species of Geoglosum. There are several black ones in it requires a microscope to separate them
1 & 2 are very poor photos

| | | Re: sand dunes fungi IDs 1) As nos. 1,2 and 3 don't appear to be blackening to any extent, they could be H peristens rather than H conica. Both are found in the grassy parts of fixed sand dunes. Or you might have mixture of both there.

Melanie | I agree (as regards 1 & 3). They look like H. persistens to me, rather than H. conica, or the sand-dune specialist (more or less), H. conicoides.
While critical details are not visible in the photograph, I think no. 4 is more likely to be Trichoglossum hirsutum than any Geoglossum. Agreed that microscopic confirmation is needed, but I have been looking at these for some 30 years (really must publish!).

| | | Re: sand dunes fungi IDs 1) Thanks for the responses. I am aware that it is not possible to identify some fungi just from (such a poor) pictures. I'll try to follow the 'Help us to help you identifi fungi' 'codex' next time.
