I spotted a Coprinus like "fungus" growing from litter in a fast flowing stream so risked life and limb to get a photo  
and I then carefully retrieved the "fruit body"

Looks odly similar to a bluebell bulb to me  possibly a visit to the opticians is in order  We have all done it though hav'nt we. At least you did'nt have the embarasment of posting it on the unidentified fungi forum!

Golfballs, old tennis balls that had lost their "fur", polystyrene, ice crystals, bits of cardboard, the lenticels on willow bark. Done 'em all and a few more as well I suspect. I think it's to do with having an enquiring mind. So much better that you saw it and checked than not to have seen it at all which is the state in which a lot of people seem to wander around the countryside.

It might develop bluebell rust if you're lucky.

my wife is fed up of me pulling over in the car all the time to look at fungi i've spotted only to find they are polystyrene cups or chip trays - still, at least i can pick them up and put them in the bin!!!
