| | | Help with ID if poss Hi
I found this resuipinate Polypore yesterday, but unfortunately I have not much to go on:
It was on the end of a sawn log among a mixture of trees including Pine and Beech and I am not sure which the log was from
It has not dropped any spores and I am unable to find any spores on squash preparations of the pores.
It has not got any Setae so I have ruled out Inonotus
It does have some clamps on the hyphae.
I think it may be Antrodia serialis, Is this likely? Or has anyone any other ideas?
Peter

| | | Re: Help with ID if poss Hello Peter,
I'd bet a lot that this is Antrodia serialis. Very typical in all respects, including the growth on the cut surface of a laying stem. It should then be Pinus, not Betula. It seems to be in company of Amylostereum areolatum ....
best regards,
Andreas

I may go back and see if I can get a beter ID on the substrate and also have a closer look as at the possible Amylostereum, as if it is Amylostereum areolatum their are only 19 records in the BMS database.

| | | Re: Help with ID if poss Hello Peter,
if you go back, then the violett one will tell you which substrate you have.
If it has teeth, then it is Trichaptum - only on coniferous substrate.
If it is smooth, then it is either a Amylostereum - only on coniferous substrate, or Chondrostereum purpureum - only on decidous wood.
This is based on the occurence in sw-Germany. May be Trichaptum can occure sometimes also in birch in Northern Europe, if I remember right.
best regards,
Andreas
