Unidentified Mycena

Hello!



In September last year, I took a few pictures of a very pretty little Mycena in Williamson Park, Lancaster. The mushrooms had distinctive white caps and very dark stems. They were in mixed woodland, though, if I remember correctly, they were surrounded by hardwoods.

I keep coming back to them because I've not found any Mycena species in my books which seem to match. Does anyone have any idea what they may be?

Until anyone disagrees I would say M arcangeliana is the most likely.

Mal, thanks. Looking again, that is certainly a possibility, but the stem seems to be somewhat darker in my picture. My Collins Complete Guide notes that M. flavescens is similar but has a whiter cap; Google searches of both turn up similar looking mushrooms.

They can often have a very dark almost blue stipe



so yours is a perfect fit.
