| | | What is this growth on my window?? I just found this growing on a window of a flat I am renting. We have just discovered a serious issue with damp and while we were looking - we found this:
What is it??
Thanks!

Me, I'd call it a Mold and it'd be eradicated.

Thanks! | Hi LNB and a warm welcome to WAB
It would help us if you had a 'larger' and more 'closeup' image to view

| | | Re: What is this growth on my window?? Whatever kind of mould it is you don't want it in your home. Detox mould and mildew spray is good for getting the condensation/dust mould off windows and the type that grows on walls. It will leave the window nice and clean but might need to respray every so often. Lovely colours though! |

The conditions that appear to be present would certainly allow the growth of the ascomycete Peziza cerea. It's commonly named 'The Cellar Cup' for that very reason.
Mind you, as mentioned above, a closer image would be excellent and certainly key in assisting you with an ID.

I would say that you ought to bring it to your landlord's attention as possible dry rot and get them to call someone in to check it out, just in case.
It looks too flat for P. cerea to me, is it on a wooden window frame?

| | | Re: What is this growth on my window?? It looks like Dacrymyces stillatus to me, very common on damp softwood joinery. When it is a bit dry it looks more orange, like yours. It doesn't look like dry rot at all to me, but if you want your landlord to do something fairly quickly about the damp then by all means say you think it might be dry rot.
