| | | Mushrooms found on pasture Hi All,
I was walking out on some pastures today and found these mushrooms. Any help identifying them would be great. I thought at first they were Meadow Waxcaps, but the colour seems much too brown. The cap was up to maybe 10cm on some of the bigger specimens. Does anyone know what they are?
Thanks,
Quin
p.s. I also saw some other mushrooms a couple of weeks previously. Here they are below. Would anyone know what they are, the biggest cap I saw was about 7cm and they seemed to grow (mostly) very near or on cow pats!
The spore print was a light (almost orangey) brown. |

I think your second mushroom is an Entoloma.
What you call 'Mottlegills' (Panaeolus sp.) have a darker sporeprint, marbled gills and usually a light coloured (sterile) gill edge.
Cheers, Nick. |

I got a spore print of the first set of mushrooms this morning and they are a buff colour, so they mustn't be Lepista saeva. Have you any other ideas? The stem is the same pale colour as the gills.
As for the second set of pics, the spore print was an orangey brown. Is there an entoloma with that spore colour?
Cheers,

| | | Re: Mushrooms found on pasture Hello,
if you take that first spore print and sratch the spores together into a thicker layer, then I can imagine that you might be surprised how the colour changes to a pinkish-beige.
the colour print of Entoloma is often quite deep coloured, like in Pluteus, and it is more a brown then a pink definitely.
best regards,
Andreas

| | | Re: Mushrooms found on pasture Hi Andreas,
Thanks for your comments. I scratched the spores together and it was more pink like than before. It had the lightest tinge to it, almost the colour of a human's skin maybe.
I'll look again at the Entolomas too. I have a book that says they have pink spores but colour perception is quite subjective and like the previous poster, Nick, it certainly does look like a Entoloma that I spotted.
Many thanks,
Quin | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
