| | | Brackets with gills?? On the edge of a large plot of cleared gorse at the end of Blackbushe Airfield runway containing a host of Turkeytails - Trametes versicolor I found some with gills. Well that's what I first thought, but I haven't had much success in identifying what they actually are. The closest I can get is either Split Gill - Schizophyllum commune or Bitter Oysterling - Panellus stipticus The fan shape radius in the pics is approx 7cm.
Any ideas folks? |

CY | Hi Richard
They were growing bracket-like densely overlapping on a broadleaf tree/ gorse stump with virtually no stems. The definite gills were radiating from the joining point, crowded and brownish-pink. Spore colour as yet unknown. Cap surface softly wrinkled with concentric colour zones varying from pale (stained algae green) grey to buff.

| | | Re: Brackets with gills?? These look a bit like Lenzites betulinus: the pores can look very gill-like. Have a look at my photos in the Gallery. Mine were growing with Trametes versicolor too. |

My field guide doesn't list it and I missed it completely in Mushrooms: Must try harder!
