Fungi id please
I went to Blakemere (in Delamere) yesterday and photographed this small species (35mm across cap) under Scots Pine. Possibly a lactarius as tiny white droplets under the gills of the handled example. Does a rufus milk cap go brown?

Lactarius rufus is possible but another contender is L. hepaticus which also occurs under pine but becomes rarer the further north you go.

The colour suggests Lactarius hepaticus to me

Thanks for the info. Never considered hepaticus. Colour fits much better. And size.

Cheers John. I've had a quick look on the 'net' and I think you are right. Size, colour and habitat are all spot on. Oh for a microscope.
