| | | Pholiota confirmation appreciated please The following were found on the underside of an old uprooted oak. I think the first is Pholiota aurivella but would appreciate confirmation because i haven`t seen it before. The second was very close and at first I thought it might be a very pallid version of P. aurivella because of the stem characteristics however; on reflection the gill attachment is different, could it be Pleurotus sp
Cheers

Chris | First pic has down curved scales, viscid cap, and is not growing at the base of a tree.
Second pic has de-current gills.
Have I answered my own question?

Chris | Sorry about that Chris; there`s no substitute for actually being there is there. Thanks for your reply and I can see that the cap and stem scales of the second pic suggest P. squarrosa and the gills could be distorted due to age. However; I`ve never squarrosa as washed out as this.
Cheers

| | | Re: Pholiota confirmation appreciated please Hello Pete, Chris,
the 2nd Pholiota is Ph. gummosa. The bleeched-greenish-yellowish colour is characteristic. For Ph. squarrosa at least the stipe would contradict, because they are completely smooth in Petes picture.
best regards,
Andreas
