Found growing on a rotting beech leaf C. acicularis is the closest I could "pin" it down to (ok, bad joke  ). Feel free to confirm/correct

 Good call... I really need to expand my library (already?!) to get close to IDing these smaller fellows I'm encountering. I'm rather enjoying seeking the smaller fungi, it's proving quite entertaining.

seriously . . . . just from the habitat you should be able to rule out Cudoniella - trouble is most popular fungus books scarcely touch on this huge area of mycology . . .

I'm just waiting to be contacted as regards laying my hands on a reasonably good second-hand scope. If that falls through I'll be straight on with buying a new scope. Believe me, when I purchase my scope everyone will know
