Unidentified Fungus on tree stump
Hi

I'd be very grateful if some one could ID this fungus for me. I don't normally shoot fungi but liked the look of this, looks like I'll have to go and buy a book soon!

4-5cm high, growing on an unidentifiable tree stump in highly mixed woodland (old ornamental woodland in castle grounds). Thanks for your help. Paul

It could be Mycena leptocephala.

why not Mycena galericulata Mal?

It could well be that Chris but they are usually found as a group. (but not always)

The stem seems relatively thick and sturdy, with an almost polished surface. I'd be swaying towards Mycena galericulata.
