| | | Stump fungus for ID please Can anyone identify this fungus for me please. It is growing on the dead stump of a felled birth tree and situated in a fairly exposed position. The images was taken on 06-11-2010. |

In case you are confused by the learned commanders brief comment, please let me explain. Lycogala epidendrum is a slime mould or Myxomycetes which is not recognised as part of the fungal kingdom. Having said that 'not a lot of people know that' |

I would expect L.epidendrum to be rather more red at this stage.
Personally I find it easier to check the aethalia/spore colour when the sporocarps have matured as these species can go through a large range of colour changes.
