the obvious answer might be parasol mushroom, but I suspect it could be its relative Macrolepiota mastoidea . . .
some notes about habitat etc are always welcome rather than a curt "What's this?"

Theres not really much I can tell you that isnt already obvious from the photo to be honest. The only extra info is that it was on a hillside, no grazing anuimals apart from maybe deer and it was in Cornwall. This is not trick photography, they were maybe 4/5 inches tall quite big, very white gills. Just like those mushrooms carved in wood - my first thought was also parasols but the young one looked so "pointy" I wasnt aware parasols looked like that when young.
