Which Ganoderma please?

Oh dear - we've been out and about again! Friday 29th October, a visit to Exbury Gardens on the edges of the New Forest in Hampshire, a bit south of Southampton on the banks of the Beaulieu River. These were growing at the base of a large living Oak tree: the older one sort of cracked and felt hollow under the surface crust when I poked my thumb into it. The younger ones were close to the ground and had grown around grass stems and a Holly leaf which still looked green and healthy so I assume they grow pretty fast and were still actually developing?

I wondered about G. resinaceum or lucidum but as usual my tatty specimens don't look anything like the examples in the books ot on the internet!

If you could poke your thumb into it you are looking at G resinaceum. G lucidum normally grows a stalk before putting out the bracket part of the fruit-body,
