It's even scarier if you're one of the people who puts the stress on the second syllable of Amanita to make it sound like "a maneater"!

You certainly do Chris. I had never heard the alternative pronunciation of Amanita before.
I'm sure you mentioned another one that can be mispronounced in an amusing way but I can't remember what it was (or if it was too rude for this site, given the general tenor of the conversation regarding the L. mammiforme. )
