| | | Large fungi ID - clitocybe? Hello, i went to wollaton the other day - there were a lot of 'typical' sized Clitocybe nebularis (around 5-10 cm diameter) growing around some of the woodland. However, growing from the ground nestled within a few bits of dead wood i found a group of very large specimens - around 20cm+ in diameter, which had the same colouring an 'jizz' of C. nebularis. However they smelled a little different, quite sweet, but this may have been due to them being older specimens.
just wondering if i'm on the right track here or is it something completely different, i was just taken by the size of them
heres the big ones - i included a quid for size comparison of one which wasnt even the biggest - but the perspective makes it hard to judge!
this is one found nearby which was a little more modest in size. edit - not sure why the thumbnails dont work, but the pictures are there!!! - thanks!

[/i] | Sorry this is off topic but you've awakened a memory. I was at Nottingham University in the seventies and I remember me and a friend went into the woods at Wollaton Hall to collect Skullcap plants. We made an infusion of them in order to investigate whether there was any factual basis for Skullcap's alleged hypnotic properties. This was a purely scientific study by two inquisitive pharmacy students. Results were negative. |
