| | | Confusing bolete I wanted to avoid posting a bolete thread but this one I just can not work it out. It's not the best sample but I'm hoping someone knows what it is. We've been finding this type for the last six weeks or more but I've paid it little attention until they showed up on nicely maintained grass under established beech trees. Cap feels suede like with pale creamy yellow cracking (but I'm positive it isn't the yellow-cracked bolete). Pores yellow aging to olive brown with the barest hint of bruising blue (if you really look hard ). Stipe reddish tint towards the bottom, bruising fairly red when cut. Smell, pretty naff (is that a smell?) from young through to this maggot riddled specimen
Cap shot showing cracking (and is that fly the blighter who laid the eggs I wonder )
Underside
And cut showing staining of stipe (then quickly disposed of as the maggots started wondering who was chopping up their lunch)

| | | Re: Confusing bolete Is this a case of a red crack not cracking red? I was wondering about the slow and little blue bruising... that threw me off B. chrystenteron
