possibly Russular nigricans?

Is this Russular nigricans?

I thought it was supposed to have a convex cap. I can't find anything quite the same as it in my books; but it has the general appearance of a Russula.

Any help, please?

Hi Ron,
try Hygrocybe conica, most of the books only show it in its usual red state,

my first find of this one had me confused for quite a while as i could not find it in any of my books looking like this,

Many thanks for that; one of my books shows Hygrocybe conica to be up to 5cm, another has it up to 7cm (which is nearer the size, from memory). I'll see if I can find it again; but it was last week and it has probably gone by now.

As with most 'newbies', I think I've worked it out, then . . .
