| | | Help with Marasmius species Hello all
Whilst at Sherwood Pines 17th October 2010 with Jaybie and Les, we came across what I assumed was Marasmius androsaceus, but it just doesn’t look right!! Or am I just losing it in such a busy season
Any comments as always much appreciated

I agree that it doesn't look right for Marasmius androsaceus. Given the very dark stem which gets paler towards the apex, the only suggestions I can come up with are perhaps young specimens of one of the species formerly in Micromphale, now Gymnopus i.e. Gymnopus perforans or Gymnopus brassicolens. But both species tend to have radially grooved caps (perhaps more so as they mature) and both would have a distinct smell. I guess you didn't smell these as you assumed they were Marasmius androsaceus?

Ken | Hi Ken
I didn't notice any distinctive smell other than the typical 'pine litter' smell.
Here is an image of the gills ... Sorry it's not a good one

| | | Re: Help with Marasmius species At the risk of hindering rather than helping I thought I would post this shot of the ones that were found close by the ones John has posted.
These do appear to show the distinct differences.

| | | Re: Help with Marasmius species These look like texbook M androsaceus. Maybee I have never seen them young enough to look like Johns. The almost omphalanoid look to one or two makes me doubt that they are the same.
