| | | Possible Clavulinopsis? A friend sent me this photo, taken a few days ago in the Comeraghs, SE Ireland and I hoped someone might be able to suggest a possible ID for it.
My best guess was maybe a Clavulinopsis but I don't know fungi! |

| | | Re: Possible Clavulinopsis? It is growing in unimproved acid grassland, so Clavulinopsis looks right. I'd hazard a guess at Clavulinopsis helvola.

| | | Re: Possible Clavulinopsis? Hi Jenny,
It has the appearance of Apricot Club - Clavulinopsis luteoalba, but with the tip of the fruitbody in the photo being out of focus, although it does look paler, I can't decide whether it has the typical whitish tip that C.luteoalba normally has.
I'd probably still go with that though.
Regards,
Mike. |

| | | Re: Possible Clavulinopsis? One look at the spores should tell you - if they are like asteroids under the 'scope', they can only be helvola.

Going on looks alone, I would still say this looks more like C.luteoalba, than any C.helvola that I've seen. (Nothing more than my own personal, and limited experience). - But I readily accept and agree fully with what you say - without the microscopy it can't be proved one way or the other.

| | | Re: Possible Clavulinopsis? Thanks for the confirmation that it is a Clavulinopsis and for narrowing down the possibilities as to which one.
Unfortunately that photo is all there is to go on so it will have to forever remain Clavulinopsis sp.
