| | | End of Season and Frost Question Hi,
What marks the end of the main autumnal mushroom season? Is it a hard frost or light frost? Or can we still get substantial numbers of different varieties of mushrooms after a light frost i.e. 0C air temperature. I only ask as it looks like a light frost is on its way this weekend.
Cheers,
Paul |

| | | Re: End of Season and Frost Question I may not be fully correct with this, but from my limited experience, frost will kill off many mature fruitbodies, although there are several that it doesn't seem to affect at all (Flammulina velutipes for example).
Also, once the frost has gone, (assuming just an ovenight frost and not a weeks long period of sub-zero temperatures), all of the same types of fungi which were fruiting before it occured, will still be throwing up new fruitbodies.
Regards,
Mike. |

| | | Re: End of Season and Frost Question You should still see fungi in November. At work the fungi season has been early this year. Normally kicks off late October and carries on into November. Obviously depends on what the wather/humidity is like.

| | | Re: End of Season and Frost Question We had light frost last night in Gateshead, wiped out the remaining tomato plants and other less hardy vegetation in our garden . The stump puffballs by the pond survived and we saw plenty of fungi on today's hike. So I'd not worry about light frosts reducing your chances of seeing fungi. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
