| | | Mycology groups in the North-East? Spent the quiet part of today at work browsing the net via my phone looking for a North-Eastern England mycology group and only found one which looked unlikely to meet my needs due to the days they met up.
My trouble is that I currently work in York tuesday to saturday and my free time (saturday evening through to early tuesday morning) is spent in Gateshead (at least until I finally get a job in the Newcastle/Gateshead area anyway).
I'm looking for a group where there's a chance to learn the microscopic aspect of mycology. Is there anyone who can point me in the right direction?
Regards, David |

| | | Re: Mycology groups in the North-East? Some seem to be saturdays, which is just not possible but I noticed mention of one that occured last sunday at Chopwell woods (an area we know well... can't believe we missed it... D'oh). But I'll see if I can tempt the better half with the Bellingham one on the 17th (there's a beautiful waterfall up there too). I just hope they look at all things fungal and not simply the palatable variety.
After taking another look at the site I think I might as well contact them and see what they say... It can't all be forays as they mention microscope workshops but give no dates
Thankyou Jon |

Unfortunatley there is no group local to York but I am just a few miles north and would be quite happy to give a few tips on the use of microscopes.

| | | Re: Mycology groups in the North-East? That is greatly appreciated Mal. My first stumbling block is choosing a decent microscope that will allow me to take photos (my current microscope is 20+ years old and most certainly seen better days). So the next few days are being spent reading reviews and whatnot. The next will be learning how to identify using literature which, from what I can gather, is when the fun starts

| | | Re: Mycology groups in the North-East? And the North Eastern Fungus Study Group has emailed me back... Both their forays and indoor workshops are on saturdays... ho hum But they have asked me to contact them if my work situation changes (getting saturdays off in hairdressing is nigh on impossible) |
