| | | The Prince? Agaricus augustus? Hi All,
I was out and about today and I saw this (first two pictures) just at the edge of the woods on grass and the cap is about 7cm. I'm pretty sure it's the Prince, could anyone confirm this for me.
Oh and I also came across this (the third picture), again I think it's a Collared Earthstar, but any confirmation would be much appreciated!!
It's nice to spot little surprises!
Many thanks,

Can't comment on the earthstar though.

the Earthstar looks a pretty good bet for Geastrum triplex to me. Here is one of the troop Fungi john showed us this weekend.
Looks very similar. Can you remember the size of it?

Thanks for both of you responding to my post.
Hi Chaz. Yes, I was pretty sure it was The Prince. It's a nice specimen
Hi Alex. Yes, I can remember what size it was. The "bulb" part was 4cm and the full diameter was about 8cm. Do you think it is a Geastrum triplex? I had been leaning towards that too after consulting my good old Roger Phillips book! hehe

| | | Re: The Prince? Agaricus augustus? I'm not 100% certain this is the Prince, other Agaricus spp. have this cap surface and reach this size, and overall the cap colour looks too grey.
