Don't fret, it's a Lactarius, check the milk in the broken stipe in the second shot looking at the habitat, could be L. Rufous. I'm on my phone though so pictures are tough to look at! That's my disclaimer |

this was the latest I've looked at so I take back comments about shots of undersides . . . . now that has the decurrent gill attachment one might expect with Lactarius aurantiacus in a broad sense
was it a wet day? I wouldn't expect L. rufus to look as shiny as this, but as Nick has indicated the habitat is right for it
cheers
Chris

| | | Re: Last one for ID ! I'm not being rude or anything, but are you sure you've not mixed up 2 pictures here? The slippery, slimy looking specimen looks larger and has yellow dots (presumably the flesh showing through the caps) which would indicate this the cap of a Suillus.
The second is definitely Lactarius.
Honestly can't see how these are the same specimen! Especially if you state it's dry. The only genus I know that stay that viscid, even when dry, is Suillus. The habitat looks different in the 2 images too, though not totally different.
What do you make of that? |

| | | Re: Last one for ID ! This is of course possible. The photos were only taken a minute apart but weren't the same sample. My husband was being "helpful" in bringing me a fungus to photograph the underside and maybe it was different!!. So maybe I'll put this one (these two) down to Unknown. |
