| | | Coral Fungus help please Nice one from yesterday, growing in ancient wood with lots of branch, log and stump debris. Can anyone help with ID. Any comments welcome.

I don't think I may be much help, but as you said any comment welcome...lol
All my efforts can come up with are these possibles (by no means exhaustive I'm sure):
1. Beige Coral (Clavulinopsis umbrinella)
2. Upright Coral (Ramaria stricta)
3. Ramaria aurea
Two of these are on the Red Data list and the other is rare! So, either you've been really lucky in spotting this specimen, or I'm way of track!!

Going on the photo and your habitat details, I'd have gone for Ramaria stricta.
Although Phillips states that it is on Red Data list, both Jordan & Sterry/Hughes state that it is common/frequent to occasional.
Checking the BMS database, there are 865 records on the GB checklist of fungi - so I suspect that Phillips is out of tune here regards rarity!
Although, I imagine that if Chris were to respond, he would undoubtedly say that microscopy will be needed for absolute ID.
