Identify funghi

Growing on a east facing bank approx on 60metre contour on north west corner of the Isle of Skye

This bank has considerable amount of old branches in (from cleaning up house site) mainly hazel, willow,alder and some birch

you're not "wrong" Nick . . . . the epithet "Armillaria mellea" is used in both a broad and a narrow sense ("sensu lato" and "sensu stricto" in taxo-speak)

so this is Armillaria mellea sensu lato - the term one should also use for records based just on the presence of "bootlaces"

but I think, based on the dark scales on the cap, and those that can just be made out along the edge of the ring, that in the narrow sense it is Armillaria ostoyae

Same thing, Armillaria (of some sort)
