| | Identify Fungi that might poison my dog Hi All, i am a newbie and joined to try and get help with the following. My 10 month old dog keeps being sick in the night. She has had all the tests the vet can give her and medical reasons have been ruled out. Because she is normally only sick in the night, she goes out and grazes the grass in the garden in the early hours of the morning. I am wondering if she is ingesting something with the grass. I often find at dawn singular, translucent and slender fungi dotted around the lawn. The look as if they have a spiders web hanging off the side and you can see through them. They are i suppose about one and half inches tall. I also have a fungi that looks like a mushroom growing around some slabs on a path. I live in the West Country and have apple, greengage trees and a large silver birch. The rest is layed out to lawn. I am trying to rule out the possibility that as she ingests the grass she might be picking the singular ones up. They are so fairy like she would not even notice. If so are they poisonous. Grateful for any help. Regards homely60 |

| | | Re: Identify Fungi that might poison my dog Hi homely60, welcome to WAB, sorry I don't know funghi but as a helpful suggestion, a picture of the mushrooms 'in situ' would be a good start to identification, try & get as much of the stem, base & gills in as possible. Good luck

| | | Re: Identify Fungi that might poison my dog Just a thought that it's pretty common for dogs to eat grass and then throw up. Mine does occasionally - I've just never heard of one doing it every day. In other words, I don't think we need to add in possibly poisonous fungi to account for the dog being sick every night. Has the vet said anything about all the grass eating? Possibly a dietary deficiency or some other similar problem? I think I'd focus on that, as dogs getting sick on grass is common, but I've never heard of a dog being poisoned by fungi.

- Jim | I'd never heard of dogs being poisoned either, until I got this reply to a post. Help identifying fungi please
Having said that, I still think it's unlikely the dog is being poisoned. It's quite probable that the dog is being sick for other reasons, dogs can vomit pretty readily. |

I'd be very surprised if they'd poison a dog. They're harmless to us humans.

| | Re: Identify Fungi that might poison my dog Hi.yes that is it i think. If it isn't poisonous then that is a relief. My dog has just been treated for campylobactor but isn't responding fully to treatment. Yes she is eating grass because she feels nauseous but i was worried she might be ingesting one of the fungi in the garden at the moment. Thanks to everyone who responded looks like i can rule this out. Regards homely60 | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
